Where most long-term care facilities are built to mimic hospital layouts, Augusta’s new 179,000 sq ft Maine Veterans Home is designed to be more like a home, with clusters of private rooms (each looking like a small house) surrounding a shared living room, dining room, den, and kitchen. There is even an indoor city center with a bank, barber shop, chapel, and bar—and ACE painted it all.
Working at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic was challenge enough, but there was more to come—where most projects use 20-30 different colors, this highly intricate project necessitated the use of over 90, with each substrate requiring 3-4 colors. Needless to say, the result is spectacular.
