Opened in the fall of 2023, the 74,000-square-foot Gordon Center for Creative and Performing Arts at Colby College is one of the most advanced and innovative performing arts facilities in New England and the new home for the departments of Music, Cinema Studies, and Performance, Theater, and Dance.
ACE handled all the acoustical wall and ceiling treatments for the project, with a full-time team completing the work in 14 months. Planning was all important as lead times on materials ranged from 2 to 46 weeks. The custom nature of changing acoustic requirements necessitated 1,300 wall panels varying in 336 unique sizes and sourced from nine separate manufacturers, 1,100 direct-attached ceiling panels, 7,700sf of architectural wood ceilings, 4,500sf of architectural metal ceilings in Performance Hall, and 20,000sf of acoustical ceilings.
The ACE Team also painted ceilings, walls, wall panels, electrical/plumbing runs, and exposed structural steel throughout.
